Papers are requested for book chapters. The book title is “How to Go Global in Higher Education: Reviewing and Redesigning Internationalisation Strategies in a Complex Environment”, which will appear in Edward Elgar’s How to Guides series. The expected publication date is summer 2027.

Internationalisation has become a defining strategic priority for higher education institutions worldwide. Yet existing literature remains fragmented, often separating strategy from implementation, or focusing narrowly on student mobility, policy, or theory. This edited volume brings these dimensions together, offering a structured, practice-oriented guide for senior leaders, international office professionals, and policy influencers. This book will provide a comprehensive, globally informed framework for designing, delivering, and evaluating internationalisation strategies in an increasingly complex geopolitical, digital, and competitive environment. We invite scholars, practitioners, senior leaders, and policy specialists to contribute chapters that advance understanding and offer actionable insight.
Themes for Consideration
The volume is organised around four core sections. Proposed chapters should align with one of the following themes:

We particularly welcome chapters offering global perspectives, comparative case studies, and insights from diverse institutional contexts, including contributions from India, China, and the Global South.Please submit an abstract of 250-300 words outlining the scope, objectives, and anticipated contribution of your proposed chapter by 1st July, 2026. Full chapters should be approximately 5,000 words, including references.
Important Dates:

Full chapter submission: 1st November, 2026
Reviewer comments received: 22nd January, 2027
Final chapter submission: 1st April, 2027

Submission guidelines
- Papers should be in Microsoft Word format, and should be no longer than 5,000 words (including cover page, abstract, tables, figures and reference section)
- Submissions must be in Calibri 12-font with 1.5 line spacing. Pages must be numbered.
- All papers should be fully Harvard-referenced, and the complete reference list should appear alphabetically by name at the end of the paper.
- Tables, figures and graphs must be included at the end of the text. Each of these should have legends, be given appropriate, clear titles and show the source and base numbers for percentages.
- The position of tables, figures and diagrams within the text should be clearly marked ‘place table one here’ (etc.).
- All authors who contribute meaningfully to the text must be identified with full names (including salutation), full address and email address
- Submissions must include corresponding author details: Full name (including salutation), contact number, full address and email address.
- Submissions must include any funding information, Conflict of Interest declarations, and any acknowledgements the authors wish to make
- Copyright and permissions: It is the contributor’s responsibility to seek written permission for any work in copyright and also to settle any fees which may arise as a result of this. Copyright of material published in the US and UK lasts for the author’s lifetime plus 70 years. Copyright acknowledgements should appear next to the item reproduced. Copyright holders often make the position and wording of the acknowledgement a condition of granting permission, so please follow their requirements carefully.
- Contributors will not be paid. However, the contributors will each receive a complimentary digital copy of the work on publication, along with a PDF of their chapter contribution.
