Choosing credit load
Business education in China includes 3 broad areas of learning:
1. Professional business modules
2. Mandatory English language modules of 4 hours per week and elective English for a further 4 hours per week.
3. A program of contextual modules including philosophy, history, politics, and P.E.
The visiting student program contains only category one modules as above, i.e., professional business modules.
Credits in the Gengdan Institute
Classes are delivered in 45 minutes long learning hours. A credit requires 16 learning hours plus self-directed learning and assessment.
Modules generally require 48 hours delivery (3 credits) or 64 hours delivery (4 credits). A small number of modules have 32 hours delivery (2 credits).
Student workload
The student workload per semester in the International Business School is approximately 24 credits with some slight variation (i.e. an annual workload for the full academic year of 48 credits). This results in a relatively heavy class attendance requirements of 24 teaching hours per week. Local students will experience three different areas of learning as explained above. Visiting students will only take professional modules.
Choosing modules
Please read the attached spreadsheet <Menu of Module Options Available to inbound Students> carefully together with the notes. One of the modules is offered on a Block basis which can make for a heavy workload for 4 or 5 weeks. For most students, they will be aiming to select modules totaling about 24 credits for the semester with a class attendance of about 23/24 hours per week.
We will be happy to discuss with International Officers the matching of credits and student learning weight between our institutions.
Application Fact Sheet, Dormitory Info and other miscellaneous
Please read the <Incoming Exchange Students Fact Sheet 2024-2025> carefully for the application procedures. It would be much appreciated you could submit the application info before that date.
